Grease blockage in sewer line causes many gallons of wastewater to leak into bay

“A grease blockage in the main sewer line of a city facility in Sarasota caused about 300 gallons of wastewater to flow out of a customer’s cleanout.

An unknown amount entered a stormwater drain that leads to Sarasota Bay, according to a news release from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

The department said about 25 gallons were recovered after the 2:30 p.m. Monday incident at 1750 12th Street.”
